Intrinsic and extrinsic elements.

Short stories are a type of literary work in the form of prose that has only one stage of the storyline. As the name implies, short stories contain life that is told in a short and concise manner. Short stories concentrate on the problems of one character. Short stories are considered simpler compared to novels. This is because the storyline is not as complicated as the novel. Short stories will usually end in a short climax and the writing point is also denser so that it is easy for the reader to understand.

Short stories have the following characteristics :

  •          Many stories are approximately 10,000 words
  •          Contains only one single or single memorable idea
  •          Presents one of the most interesting events
  •         Ends with completion

The function of short stories is as follows

·         The creative function provides a sense of joy, joy, and comfort for the readers because.

·         The deductive function directs it and educates its readers because of the values of truth and goodness that are in it.

·         The aesthetic function provides beauty to its readers

·         The function of morality contains moral values so that its readers can know the good and bad morals for themselves

·         The function of religiosity contains religious teachings that can be used as an example for its readers.

Summing up the elements of a short story

Literary works of the prose type include also short stories built on the basis of two elements. The element is an intrinsic element and the extrinsic element is the element that builds a literary work from within the literary work itself while the extrinsic element is the element that builds a literary work from outside the literary work.

Literary scholars divide the intrinsic elements of prose, fiction or fiction consisting of themes, mandates, plots, characters, representations, setting points of view and language styles.

·         Theme

A theme is an idea to be the basis of the story the point of the theme is the determinant of the background of the story. The theme contains a broad overview of the story that will be raised as a story. Therefore, the theme must be determined first before writing a short story. Themes are usually clearly seen in land stories but are not expressed directly

 

·         Notable and characterization

The store is the Doer in a story.the character is divided into the main store and the auxiliary store.

The main store Is a character who interacts directly or engages in conflict.

Additional characters are characters that are only expressed in short stories without any interaction made by characters or characters involved in conflicts.

Meanwhile, characterization is the character or character of the character contained in a story.in painting the character of the author's story using two kinds of techniques, namely expository techniques and dramatic techniques

The expository technique of painting story figures is done by providing a description or description directly.

The author's dramatic technique of painting the story character through various activities carried out by the story character , both verbal and non-verbal activities.

·         Viewpoint

A point of view is a way or view that the author uses as a means to present the characters, actions, settings and various events that make up the story in a work of fiction to the reader. In general, there are two types of points of view, namely the first-person point of view and the third-person point of view

The first-person point of view is that the author is directly involved or the first person in the story. The first-person point of view is characterized by the use of the pronouns people I, I, and so on.

The second-person point of view is that the author is not directly involved in the story. The second-person point of view is characterized by the use of pronouns of people like him, them, or using the name of the character.

·         Plot or plot

A flow is a sequence of events based on the law of cause and effect. The plot is also called the arrangement of the story or storyline. There are three kinds of grooves, namely forward grooves, backward grooves, and combined or mixed grooves. The stages or plots that become a unified whole story content as follows

Introduction or exposition stage

Stage of opposition or conflict

Stage of stepping on conflicts or complications

Climax stage

Completion stage

·         Background

Setting is the events in the story that are motivated by a certain place, time or situation is a setting or setting distinguished into a setting of place, time, and atmosphere.

·         Order

A mandate is a message that an author wants to convey to readers or viewers or listeners. The mandate is stored in the fabric of the whole story.therefore to find the mandate it is not enough to read two or three paragraphs or one or two chapters but to read the whole story to the end.there are two ways of expressing the message or mandate

Explicitly, the author expresses his message directly

Implicitly "the author expresses his message indirectly

·         Stylistics

Language style is the way the author expresses his ideas through the language he uses. The scope of stylistics includes the use of sentence sentences, the selection of diction, the use of majas, and the saving of words. The language used is not only concerned with meaning but also attaches importance to the weight and content and breadth of interpretation.therefore language in literature uses many expressions, idioms, thimbles or proverbs, proverbs, and language styles.

                The extrinsic elements are as follows :

·         Background

·         Author's background

·         The literary flow of the author.
